Drivers Eligibility

Becoming a SAFED trained driver you will develop your skills to become the best drivers in the industry

Driver training, consisting of a one full day off-the-job course, is based on accident prevention and reduction, and fuel-efficient driving. Qualified SAFED instructors assess driver performance both before and after the training.

SAFED benefits to HGV Drivers:

  • the potential to improve earnings through reduced costs to employers
  • free development training (see possible charges below)
  • safer road handling and less fatigue
  • the ability to become part of the 'SAFED standard' and improve own employability
  • improved vehicle handling increases alertness and reduces physical stress resulting in shorter and safer journeys
  • drivers who complete training to the SAFED standard will receive a certificate of achievement

To receive SAFED training you must:

  • drive for a company based in England or live in England
  • hold a valid driving licence including Category C or Category C+E entitlements
