About SAFED
Background
The SAFED Trucks demonstration programme ran from 2003-2005. Training places were offered on a fully funded basis, and the final trainer network comprised over 370 instructors qualified to deliver SAFED training.
On completion of the development phase, the trainer network was advised that SAFED Trucks training was no longer available on a funded basis but trainers could deliver training under a commercial arrangement.
2009
The Department for Transport (DfT) recognises that drivers need to have confidence in the standard of the SAFED training that they receive.
- DfT recognises that HGV Instructors want to demonstrate the quality of their SAFED training.
- DfT endorses this service as a way of providing a clear focal point for SAFED HGV training
